Spain Wins World Cup – Iniesta Takes Spain To World Cup Glory With Goal In Extra Time

The FIFA World Cup 2010 Finals was simply an event that would be remembered for a really long time now. The World Cup match between Spain and Netherlands was so tense and nail biting, that both the teams didnt allow each other score even after 90 minutes. We could see the game going towards a penalty shoot out, because even after the extra added 30 minutes, both teams would not budge, in giving someone a chance to disturb the goal nets.

At least everyone thought so, that the game was heading towards a penalty shoot out, but then, as lightning struck from a clear sky, Iniesta fired a goal penetrating the Dutch defense, just four minutes before the extra time got over, making sure that Spain were worthy winners for the tournament.

Iniesta took a formidable pass from his team mate, Cesc Fabregas, inside the D and shot it straight, without wasting time to settle with the ball, through the Dutch goal keeper, and made it 1-0. On the other hand the Dutch were 10 men in the game, as defender John Heitinga received a red card for being involved, in pulling down the Spanish mid-fielder. The goal came with just four minutes to spare and after it was scored, it made the Dutch realise, that this World Cup is over for them.

This is the third World Cup finals, where, Netherlands are finishing as runner-ups, it was 1974, 1978 and now 2010. For fans in Spain, especially in Madrid, the moment of the goal was something that made them erupt with joy, and fire works went off all over the city. Fans were in tears mostly, after they realised they have won the cup for the first time. Dutch fans in Netherlands, on the other hand went dead silent, when it was sure that their dream of having the World Cup was shattered.

Is the 2010 FIFA World Cup a Big Disappointment for Football fans?

Growing reports from the media and fans say that the FIFA World Cup 2010 has turned to be a disappointment for football fans and viewers across the globe. There is smoke but big guns of football are yet to fire.

The scenario is such that the big teams, which have the potential to make it to the finals, are struggling to keep themselves in the knockout round of the World Cup.

It is a do or die kind of situation for France, Germany, Italy and England. They need to win big in the final round of the group stage matches.

Last editions runner up, France, need to beat the host nation South Africa with a big margin and hope for a result between Mexico and Uruguay. If Mexico and Uruguay match turns into a draw than France will have to leave for home. Both teams are in group A.

England, who belongs to group C is at the third position with 2 points, and at the first position is Slovenia with 4 points. England needs to beat the group leader Slovenia by at least 3 goals or else the game is over for them.

Germany in group D is at second position with 3 points; it is behind Ghana, who is at the top with 4 points. Germany has to perform well against the group leader Ghana.

Italy is at second position with 2 points in group F. The defending champions must win a match against Slovakia and if the New Zealanders beat Paraguay, than Italy may face embarrassment.

All we can say is that, may the best team win!
