Peter Falk of Columbo fame dies at 83


Veteran American actor Peter Falk, who was known for his role as Lieutenant Columbo in the popular TV series Columbo, passed away at his residence in Beverly Hills. Falk was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The actor breathed his last peacefully at the age of 83 at home on Thursday. The information about his death was given by Larry Larson, who is one of the family friends of Falk.

Peter had won four Emmys for his detective role in Columbo. The TV series ran from 1971 to 2003. The actor had also received an Emmy for his role in the TV drama The Price of Tomatoes.

Some of Falk’s best performances also include from the movie Murder, Inc and Pocketful of Miracles, for which he had received Oscar nomination. The actor had also worked in the movies It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Robin Hood and the Seven Hoods, The Great Race, The Princess Bride and The Cheap Detective. Falk began his career on stage and had featured in Broadway Productions and community theatre before entering Hollywood. In the year 2009, the actor appeared for the last time in the feature film American Cowslip. Falk’s daughter Catherine in 2008 had said in a court document that her father was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
