A new oil rig explosion has taken place in the Gulf Of Mexico, and now everyones fear has come true, a mile long oil spill is now visible in the sea. The oil rig is situated of the coast of Louisiana and the explosion took place on the morning of Thursday.

The BP oil spill recently got over and it had proved to be one of the worst oil spill nightmares in the Gulf of Mexico, which went on for more than four months. And one spill was just over, now a new spill is seen over the horizon.

According to a US Coast Guard Officer, Petty Coklough, he said that they have seen a mile long oil spill sheen in the sea from the oil rig which belonged to a Houston based oil company Mariner Energy Inc. The company has confirmed from its side that there is an oil spill in the sea. Authorities have sent three fire fighting vessels to the site of the explosion, and as per the reports the fire has been contained but not extinguished.
