Nicole Richie and boyfriend Joel Madden are officially engaged!

Lionel Richie’s daughter made an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman last night, and the lady had a huge rock on her finger — which was undoubtedly her engagement ring.

Reports say that the starlet met up with friends after that at a New York restaurant Abe and Arthurs, where she apparently discussed her marriage plans.

Joel Madden is the singer Good Charlotte and he confirmed the good news that the two were engaged.

The 30 year old singer tweeted: “Yep. I’m engaged. Very happy. Yeah we’ve been engaged for a while so your all kind of late on that. But Thanks for the hooplah all the same.”

There are reports that the two plan on tying the knot in the summer of this year but it is yet to be confirmed.

Lionel Richie’s daughter Nicole Richie is the cover girl this month of the UK edition of Marie Claire and she clears up some nasty rumors about her skinny look.

When asked by People whether she did have an eating disorder – as hyped by the media – Nicole said: “It’s extremely insulting and irresponsible I felt it was a little unfair to say someone has an eating disorder when they don’t… An eating disorder is serious and it’s a disease. I don’t think you can lightly say someone has a disease unless they are openly telling you that they do.”

The 28 year old Richie seems to be looking great and this the proud mother of two children- two-year-old daughter Harlow and son Sparrow, born in November.

She says that motherhood has changed her alot and looks forward to producing and starring in a new show about a professional mom doing the work-family balance.

Nicole Richie was hospitalized with pneumonia and is now advised complete bed rest till she recovers fully.
The reality star gave birth to son Sparrow in September and has written in her blog about her sickness and how she has been coping with it.

She wrote: “Right now it’s important for me to stay in bed and recover……Reading all of your messages on Twitter and my website has really brightened my spirits and I am so grateful for the support. I look forward to seeing you all very soon.”

Lionel Richie’s daughter has said that she’ll be back on track in 2010 when she prepares the launch of her new clothing line Winter Kate.

A few weeks ago, Nicole was admitted to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after she complained of feeling sick.
