Japan has been struck by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake, according to the latest reports. The quake struck the country on its south coast, making buildings and other structures sway without recklessly in city of Tokyo. There were no reports of injuries, damage or casualties after the quake. The Japan’s Meteorological Department confirmed that there is no fear of a tsunami.

The earthquake hit the region at 12.25 local time, and originated some 500 miles off the coast of Japanese main island. Ogasawara Islands is the place were the trembler originated some 300 miles below the earth’s surface. The Japanese Meteorological Agency stated that the earthquake was of 6.9 magnitude but the US Geological survey states it was of 6.6 magnitude.

Japan is a region which has been consistently rammed with earthquakes and tsunami’s in the past century, the reason is that it lies on a very sensitive fault plate. In the year 1995, a magnitude of 7.2 earthquake had struck the city of Kobe and killed some 6400 people.

Tension between China and Japan, east Asian countries, has started to rise, after Japan freed a crew of Chinese fishermen and their boat which they had seized last week. The fishermen were caught in the disputed seas of China and Japan. China and Japan are Asia’s two largest growing independent economies and have been in a rift with each other since some time now.

Specifically speaking there is a region in the East China sea where both countries agree to hold a group of Islands that they claim to be theirs. The Islands are called Senakaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. Both countries are disagreeing on the fact that they are not able to recognized the international boundary that separates them in the sea.

One of the other main causes of the dispute in the region is the Oil and Natural gas, for this resource is plenty in the East China sea. The countries are economic powerhouses and they will need ample of gas and other energy for consumption, this can also be a cause in the rift that these to mega countries are in a tense situation today.
