The series of controversies that are piling up on the Commonwealth Games (CWG) have in a way disheartened everyone. But cancelling them is not a good idea either.
The Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key said, “(Cancellation) of the Games would have significant implications on the future of the Commonwealth Games… and also wouldn’t be good for India, and obviously fast-emerging nation that New Zealand has good relations with. But if they are to go ahead, from New Zealand’s perspective, conditions have to be safe and sound for our people.”
Key feels that it is security measures more than anything that is a matter of concern. The hygiene is also one of the major concerns though, especially after the shock the advance teams received at the athletes’ village. The toilets and the flats that have been arranged for the CWG athletes were in a state of complete grime that scared the officials.
