Actor Charlie Sheen and wife Brooke Mueller were having relationship problems, but it was only when Charlie ended up in jail on Christmas that the two realized how bad it was. Hence the couple have decided to go in for marriage counselling.

A source told People.com, “They were fighting at a dinner in a friend’s house and it continued until the next morning. Both of them were drinking and neither was supposed to be. They both have histories of alcohol abuse and have made every effort to stop. But things got out of hand.”

The couple have dashed reports that they had separated. However, it looks like they plan on starting 2010 on a good note and hence the counselling.

Actor Charlie Sheen was arrested and jailed on Christmas Eve after an alleged domestic violence incident between the actor and his wife, Brooke Mueller.

According to the reports, Sheen made a visit Colorado to visit Mueller in her new apartment of three months since the two have attempted to work out some personal marital problems. Unfortunaltely rhings turned ugly when the two began arguing and Sheen then reportedly shoving Mueller to the wall.

Sheen was then taken into custody on charges of domestic violence against Mueller on December 25, 2009. Some of the pending charges include felony second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

The actor was then released from the Pitkin County Jail after posting an $8,500 Bond. He is scheduled to appear in court February 8, 2010.

This is not the first domestic violence case that Charlie Sheen has been involved in. In March 2005, while his then wife Charlie Sheen was still pregnant with their daughter Lola, Richards filed for divorce from Sheen, on the grounds that Sheen threatened Richards with violence.
