The sources claim that there is going to be ‘Bharat Bandh’ on September 7, 2010. It is said that the bandh is going to be held by the Maoists. As of now, the reason is not known behind this bandh but it is going to be observed all over India.

Bandh is nothing but protesting against something. It is a weapon that people use to fulfill their demands. Bharat Bandhs are mainly held against the government. The last bandh was observed on Monday July 5, 2010.

This bandh was held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and later to join the league were Communist Party of India, CPI (Marxist), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Forward Bloc. The AIADMK, Telegu Desam Party (TDP), Samajwadi Party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Janata Dal (Socialist) and INLD have also supported the strike call.

July 5 bandh was called to protest against the price hike in petroleum prices.

In the Back drop of ‘Bharat Bandh’, Organised by the opposition parties, India almost came to standstill.

It seems like the whole nation is under curfew. Police personnel can be seen doing the rounds of streets and try their level best to keep the nuisance causing sources at bay.

Businesses are worst hit by the Bandh. Business volumes are likely to be low as many offices in India are shut.

Meanwhile, In Andhra Pradesh,over 700 buses in nine depots have been cancelled as protestors stopped buses and organised agitations, officials said.

Among the major cities, Mumbai and Delhi are affected badly.

About 100 public transport buses were damaged in Mumbai and Pune today by activists trying to enforce the ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by Opposition parties.

Flights services in Mumbai has been rescheduled.

The capital is also disturbed, Karol Bagh and Rajiv Chowk metro station in Connought Place are blocked by the agitators.

The city’s inter state bus transit depot, Anand Vihar is blocked by the protesters.

Chief Economist at Aditya Birla , Ajit Ranade , said that. “The bandh affects the poor people who depend on daily wages. On a macro impact, if there is a total bandh the one day loss would be about Rs. 20000 crores if everything is closed for a day”.

In the backdrop of the decision taken by the Man Mohan Singh Government to increase the fuel price the oppositions parties have called for Bharat bandh on Monday, 5th July.

The parties supporting the Bandh are Left Parties, NDA alliance.

Supporting the Bandh, BJP Leader Manohar Parrikar said,

“In 2008, the crude oil was 140 dollars per barrel. Currently the price is between 70-75 dollars per barrel. Crude oil cost us Rs. 17 per litre.”

The Panaji MLA, Manohar Parrikar , also said

“The cost of refining is between Rs 7-10 Per liter. Add Rs 10 as a tax so the cost of petrol should be around 33 Rs. However we are charged Rs. 53 for the same. That is a profit of Rs.20.”

Shiv Sena has declared its support for the bandh. Samajwadi Party is likely to support the bandh on July 5.

Meanwhile the ruling part of Uttar Pradesh, BSP, has decided to call a strike on July 6.
The RJD-LJP alliance is planning to protest across Bihar on July 10.

The Bandh will be from 6 am to 6 pm. The essential services will remain unaffected.
