Who is Joe Hill?

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

Who is Joe HillFor 10 years Joe Hill has kept a secret but when his novel “Heart-Shaped Box”, a fantasy thriller, came out last month and Warner had already snapped up the movie rights six months earlier he realized the gig was up.

The name Joe Hill isn’t a big stretch from the truth as his famous parents named him Joseph Hillston King after a labor organizer whose 1915 execution for murder inspired the song “Joe Hill.”

Wanting to test his writing abilities on its own merits, he deliberately chose to not reveal that he is the 34 year old son of the infamous Stephen King. The editor of “Heart Shaped Box” was unaware and he only revealed his true identity to his agent 2 years ago. “”I really wanted to allow myself to rise and fall on my own merits. One of the good things about it was that it let me make my mistakes in private.”

Roman Abramovich ends 16-years marriage in Moscow

Roman Abramovich and Irina Abramovich

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich ended a 16-years marriage with Irina Malandina yesterday in Moscow on a consensual basis. It looks like Abramovich wanted the divorce to take place in Moscow because a London divorce would have put the two of them on the same level so the money could be split in half like that. The divorce comes just months after Abramovich saying that no one in his family filed for divorce and that there are no rumors of misunderstandings with his wife. Looks like that was not really the case because he was seen in Paris with 25-year old Russian former model, Daria Zhukova. Are they still “only friends”?

The owner of the English football club Chelsea said that there will not be consequences on the players and the finances of the team. The statement the two published didn’t discolose what Irina will get after this divorce, but if you think that Abramovich is eleventh wealthiest men on earth, even a few percentages wouldn’t be small.

Bob Dylan is not a hit with Pope Benedict

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Pope BenedictIn the Pope’s newly published book, Benedict writes of his concern about letting “these types of prophets intervene.” In 1997 Dylan sang 3 songs as part of a concert for Pope John Paul with other, mostly Italian, performers. As part of a youth event, Dylan sang “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”, “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” and “Forever Young”. Pope John Paul used the line from “Blowing in the Wind” to tell the crown of young people that the answer was “in the wind of the spirit” that would lead them to Christ. Benedict opposed having Dylan perform as he considered him the wrong kind of “prophet”.

While Pope John Paul was more inclined a conservative doctrine, Pope Benedict is considered much more traditional and has vowed not to give into modern pressure for change to fundamental church doctrine. Pope John II is one of the people I like and will like for the rest of my life. He deserves my respect, which is something I can’t tell exactly about Benedict. I guess no one thinks of Bob as a prophet, it’s just the beauty of his lyrics.
