Richard Hatch - 1st Survivor winner in prison for taxes
Saturday, March 17th, 2007
Richard Hatch, the first million dollar winner of the TV show “Survivor”, set in Borneo in 2000, says being in prison for failing to pay taxes on his winnings is “horrendous.” Hatch became known as the “fat naked guy” for his refusal to wear clothes for much of the CBS show. He was also quick openly gay and became close with another contestant that was a professed homophobic.Hatch who was sentenced to 51 months in prison is at the Federal Correctional Institution in Morgantown, West Virginia. His lawyer says that Hatch deserves a new trial because the judge did not allow testimony that CBS said it would pay the income tax in a deal made to avoid Hatch publicizing his claims for cheating on the show.
Hatch claims to be currently writing a book that would begin with his audition for “Survivor” and end with his time in prison. Isn’t this what everyone does in jail? Writing books and enjoying long long showers?
