Wyclef Jean helps Haiti earthquake victims with Yele

Singer Wyclef Jean has come into the spotlight to support the victims of the massive Haiti earthquake which left thousands of Haitians dead.

Wyclef is a former Fugees vocalist and producer and is known to have been born in Haiti. He has gone ahead and organized a Twitter campaign in order to raise funds for victims.

Shortly after the massive quake hit Haiti, Wyclef tweeted: “Please text ‘Yele’ to 501501 to donate $5 to YELE HAITI.Your money will help with relief efforts. They need our help..please help if you can.”

Wyclef, went to Haiti on Wednesday morning,and has opened the Yéle Haiti Foundation in 2005 to help provide scholarships for Haitian youth.

According to reports, Twitter users have been reposting a call to action to text 90999 in order to donate $10 to the Red Cross.

The Haiti earthquake, of magnitude 7.0, struck Haiti on Tuesday and is known to have killed more than 100,000 Haitians.
