American actor and comedian Billy Crystal has now been finalized to host the 84th Academy awards that would be held in the year 2012. Crystal of ‘When Harry Met Sally’ fame was finalized as the host after actor Eddie Murphy stepped down from the job.
Murphy was earlier chosen as the host of the upcoming event by the former Oscar producer Brett Ratner. But in a recent incident when Ratner had passed some inappropriate comments on gay men, the producer resigned as the producer.
Oscar president Tom Sherak accepted the resignation of Brett saying that it is good for him as well as the Academy Awards. Meanwhile the 63 year old actor has been assigned the job as he has earlier done it nine times and the latest one was in the year 2004.
Sherak had expressed that it is good to have the actor back to where he belongs and also called him a comic legend and the Oscar icon. After the resignation of Brett, the Oscar winning producer, Brian Grazer, who is also a frequent collaborator of director Ron Howard has stepped in as the producer of the Oscars. The latest Academy Awards was hosted by the actors Anne Hathaway and James Franco.
