American comedian, actor and film producer Jerry Lewis recently retired from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) telethon. The actor retired from the organization as the annual fundraiser.
The announcement of his retirement was made on Sunday by the this year’s MDA telethon. Nigel Lythgoe has been brought in place of Lewis, who had offered the position last year.
The executive producer of American Idol said that he had had never done this before and did not even realize at that time that Lewis had the intensions to retire. Lythgoe also added while addressing to Lewis that it is possible to sit on the chair but it is not possible to replace Lewis.
The executive producer also said that the things that were done by Lewis during his legacy for the organization and its families were close to a miracle and that they would like to continue his legacy forward. In the month of May it was announced that Lewis was just retiring as the host and that he would stay as the chairman. Lewis also said in a statement that he would never desert MDA and his kids. Soon after the announcement Lewis had said that he wasn’t leaving MDA at all but on 3rd August it was announced that he had resigned as the chairman.
