Earth hour 2011 observed today worldwide

Today, March 26, 2011 worldwide is being observed as Earth Hour 2011. It’s energy saving time. Giving electricity and all forms of energy the miss for an hour and thereby conserving energy is what ‘Earth Hour’ is all about. Every person is urged to switch off lights for an hour between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm.

This event is into its fifth year as it had started in Sydney in the year 2007. Very soon it caught up with the rest of the world as awareness of the significance of saving energy was growing by the day. Every year on the last Saturday of March Earth Hour is observed all over the world when people switch off the lights around them from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

This year the World Wide Fund of Nature, which looks after the event, has further urged the people to conserve all kinds of energy like fuel, water, besides electricity.
Bollywood actress Vidya Balan who joined in as an ambassador pledged not to just switch off lights for an hour but to go beyond the hour.
