Remembering martyr Bhagat Singh on the day of his death anniversary

Today Indians celebrates the death anniversary of Bhagat Singh.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh was a distinguished freedom fighter. Bold, brutally frank and outright, he was a revolutionary a little too ahead of his times. He left home at an early age to fight the cause of freedom. Freedom for India was his only goal to the end of his life.

Bhagat Singh started his feedom movement with Mahatma Gandhi’s non violent struggle but he couldn’t stick to the Gandhian philosophy for too long. In 1928, he avenged the death of Lajpatrai (another revolutionary) by shooting the British official responsible for it. As the British meaures grew harsher he even threw a bomb at the Central legislative Assembly. His intention was not to hurt anybody but to draw attention to their oppressive measures. He very bravely courted arrest after that. His absolute determination and grit led him to extreme nationalism to the disgust of the British who labelled him as a terrorist.

But here was a revolutionary with a difference. Having studied the European Revolutionary movement and Socialism he was deeply consumed by it. So he had decided on a socialistic reconstruction of India post Independence. His contribution to the Indian freedom struggle is most honorable.
