Japan hit by a 7.9 magnitude earthquake

Once again Japan has been struck with a 7.9 magnitude earthquake off the northeast coast of the country. The quake struck on Friday morning had lasted for several minutes,  there was violent shaking of buildings and panic struck the region. What was worse, the geological agency has warned Japan, the quake could have possibly triggered a 19 feet high tsunami.

If the tsunami is generated it will surly strike the Miyagi prefecture which lies nearest to the epicentre of the quake. According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii, the tsunami’s can have a reach up to Japan, Russia, Marcus Island and the Northern Marianas. Currently this is the strongest earthquake to have struck the region this year.

Tsunami watch have been issued at Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and U.S. state of Hawaii. Details regarding this quake show, it was generated 10 kms below the earth’s surface, and 125 kms east to the coast of Japan. The tremors were felt as far as Tokyo and in a CCTV footage it could be seen, the buildings were violently shaking and people were running towards the streets.
