The Hawaii islands in the Pacific were jolted by a minor earthquake, and were felt in the regions of Honolulu and Lanai. The residents from these regions have reported to have felt tremors, but as of now there were no damages or casualties reported. Hawaii lies on the Pacific ring of fire and is prone to consistent volcanic activity, but quakes are not rare here.
According to the Geological department, they have confirmed the tremor was a quake of a magnitude 3.6 and struck the region at 02.21 pm local time. The reports show, the tremor originated some 22 miles east of the island of Honolulu and was 11.8 miles below the earth’s surface.
Initial reports showed the magnitude to be on the higher side, but later it was confirmed to be a 3.6 magnitude on the Richter scale. One of the few reasons the quake has taken place is because there is consistent activity under the island’s floor and this may have triggered an earthquake.
