World AIDS Day 2010 Observed On 1st December

Every year, the 1st December is observed as World AIDS Day, and this is the day which is dedicated towards the awareness of this disease, its spread and how people get contacted with it. This day many social workers and AIDS institutions take out events and speak to people in context to this the spread of HIV infections.

This year AIDS institutes around the world will be concentrating on the mother and child HIV spread. The virus spreads the fastest during pregnancy and the child within is always the victim of this disease. So this year there will be a mass drive to educate women who do not know much about this disease and help the people to avoid getting in contact with HIV.

Since the discovery of the virus in the year 1981, AIDS has killed almost 33 million people which is nearly a million people a year. In the year 2009 there was a steep rise in the children born with HIV who contacted it from their mothers. The figures were up by almost 53% compared to the previous year and this has now become quite worrisome. So this year lets pledge to educate people about this disease and as far as possible try to halt the spread of it.
