The Bay Bridge Standoff is officially over, and the local police have managed to arrest a mentally unstable man who claimed that he had explosives with him inside his vehicle. This psychological drama literally halted the California traffic, which passes over the bridge everyday. As per the police, a 51 year old man pulled over his vehicle on the upper deck of the bridge and threatened to blow himself and the bridge along with him.
He was mentally unstable, as he had called the police at around 07.00 am in the morning, before he created the ruckus. Earlier he had called up the KCBS radio station, and testified that he was really put off because of his wife, as she was cheating on him and was going to leave him very soon.
Eyewitnesses state, they could see an aged man standing out of his vehicle, on the upper deck of the bridge, talking on a cellphone during the hour long standoff. The authorities were trying to talk with him and during this process he was so frustrated that he pulled out a gun and threw it over into the river below. Later the cops passed him handcuffs, so that he could peacefully turn himself in, and he did.
After the police took him in, they searched his vehicle, but found no explosives in it, which concludes he was just trying to make a scene due to his personal problems. The authorities are really happy, as this standoff ended on a soft note, without firing a single bullet and without using any sort of violent force.
