After the Hurricane Tomas lashed Haiti with heavy rains, the local relief agencies have quickly responded towards the people by providing them with aid and other relief materials. There is a great fear that the dam which holds back the Artibonite River will overflow very soon due to the heavy rains. It is also believed that this river and the dam is the main causer of the Cholera outbreak in the country.

US Coast Guards have surveyed the region and have directed the ships carrying the relief supplies. Flights from Miami have carried around 3000 pounds of supplies and 300 pounds of water cleaning material which is used against the spread of Cholera.
The Cholera outbreak has already caused 500 deaths in the region and as a result of which many more people are feared to get contacted with this epidemic after the floods. The Floods will be carrying the disease with it to new regions and the authorities dont want the epidemic to spread further.
