In a gruesome incident on Saturday, a surfer named Lucas Ransom, 19, was killed in a shark attack off a beach in California. During the attack Lucas was pulled into the water by a large shark, which chopped his left leg off, and as a result of which he bled to death. The most horrifying point in the attack is, that Lucas was just 100 yards away from the beach, when the sea creature attacked him.
Experts state that the shark might have mistook him as a seal or a sea lion. The force in the shark bite was so strong that it chewed off a huge chunk from Lucas’s surf board. It is really sad that a young man like Lucas was killed in such a freak attack.
Attacks by sharks are basically very rare, and that it to be fatal would be even rarer. Sharks as much as possible avoid human contact, but the attack on the California beach has puzzled the experts. The attack took place at Surf Beach, Santa Barbara, California, and soon after the incident all the local beaches have been closed down for next 72 hours.
