False Ceiling Collapse Follows Bridge Fall At Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium

The false ceiling at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi collapsed, following the foot bridge collapse on Tuesday, ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2010. Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandreshekhar, stated that the collapse of the ceiling is not a massive point to worry about for the moment. It was said that because of some weight placed on the false ceiling, the ceiling came down.

After investing the matter, it was known, that the network data cable to be placed inside the stadium was kept on the ceiling, as a result of the weight the ceiling gave away. On Tuesday, 27 laborers were injured after the foot bridge collapsed near the stadium.

Question are raised on the quality of work put in the construction of the games event, and there also questions about the safety. The Scottish team on the other hand has delayed its arrival to India for the games, as it is giving some more time to the organizer to prepare and curb the ongoing situation.
