A top US Commander has stated that the scheduled burning of Quran by an American church on the 11th September will endanger the lives of many troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. General David Petraeus has stated that there was great outrage and protests in Afghanistan after the statement of the American Church.
Dove World Outreach Center is an evangelical church in Gainesville, Florida and has stated that it will be burning copies of Quran, the holy book for the Muslims, on the 11th September. According to Petraeus, he said that if there is a Quran burning event by this church, then Islamics and terrorist will use this topic against the West and attack them in some way or the other.
In the year 2005, there was an outrage in Afghanistan following an incident in Guantanamo Bay, where during an interrogation, Quran’s were kept in toilet and flushed down, in order to make the captured men to speak up. Some 18 people had died during the outrage and if something as such happens once more it may even be worse, as riots and protest have already begun world wide.
