A new subject that the Indian cinema has come up with, and ‘Peepli Live’ demonstrates it. The movie is about the agrarian India, the life of the farmers and the horrifying price rise. We also have comedy in the movie, in fact it falls in the category of ‘dark humor’.
Peepli Live revolves around the scene of a poor farmer, who is down stricken with poverty and numerous family problems. He stays in village of central India, and then he loses his land to the government because of a non payment of loan. During that time, the government announces that it will be paying compensation of Rs. 100000 to the farmers family who has committed suicide.
The movie then turns towards the dark comedy of this man who has thought of committing suicide to profit his family with the compensation money. Its when the word of his suicide moves out and touches the media, when the small village turns into one giant media circus.
A good movie though, but lets see what it performs in the Indian theaters and what is the audience’s response towards this movie. Anusha Rizvi has directed this movie and also wrote the story of it, under the production house of Aamir Khan.
