Mumbai Oil Spill: Municipal Authorities Caution Residents From Consuming Fish

Though the oil spill from the container ship MSC Chitra might have stopped but the oil which has been leaked has spread around a lot of shores. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, has warned the residents of Mumbai and the people from Raigad that they should avoid consuming fish. The fish may be out of the oil spill and may become injurious to health.

The fishermen from Mumbai are really lucky that the oil spill has not hindered the livelihood, as a result that during the monsoons the fishermen anyways dont venture in the seas, due to high waves. But the good news is that most of the fish available in Mumbai are imported from Kolkata and Orissa, for the fishermen in Mumbai are observing the monsoons till the 15th of August.

Marine biologists have stated that most of the deep water fish are fine to consume, as they are found in the deep waters. Oil affects fish that swim and stay the near the surface, because oil is lighter than water and it floats on the surface.
