The previous land speed record which was set back in the year 1997 by another British team in a car called the ‘Thrust SSC’ as it made the world record by going at 763 mph, would be broken in some years from now. A new supersonic car is getting ready and its full scale model has already been unveiled in UK. The 12.8 m long car, which took three years in aerodynamic research, is called the ‘Bloodhound SSC’.
It is aiming to break the previous record made by ‘Thrust SSC’, by crossing the 1000 mph mark. The team has made an announcement, that it would start building the vehicle by the end of the 2011. Mark Chapman, chief engineer of the project stated that they are hoping to test run the vehicle by the end of 2011 or 2012.
Bloodhound would be using a hybrid engine of a Falcon fighter jet and a Eurofighter Typhoon Jet. The project also includes people from the ‘Thrust’ project. The main purpose of the run is not only to break the existing world land speed record, but rather influence children to take up STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
