The Young Man’s Christian Association (YMCA) has officially changed its name to a simple ‘Y’. Y was a nick name that was being used since many years. The YMCA was founded some 166 years ago. Even their logo will have just a ‘Y’ now.
YMCA’s chief marketing officer and Senior Vice President, Kate Coleman said, “It’s a way of being warmer, more genuine, more welcoming, when you call yourself what everyone else calls you.”
The name change was not a sudden decision. Research regarding this was done for almost two years and was found that the people did not understand the real purpose or mission of the association which lies in youth development, social responsibility and healthy well being.
The President and Chief Executive of the association Neil Nicoll told that through their name change they are making things simple and want the people to know what exactly the association does.

It’s amazing the millions of dollars that will be required to update all the YMCAs across the United States- Thanks for wasting money
that could help youth/adult programs.
