Another Indian Student Attacked In Melbourne

Hervir Singh, a hospitality student in Melbourne was attacked in Ringwood recently.

The attackers are claimed to be a group of teenage boys who were in a bid to snatch money from Hervir. He said, “Suddenly, four or five boys attacked me. They tried to snatch some money from me. I ran from there and then I called the police.”

With the attacks still continuing on the Indian community, the Australian police claim that the assaults have lessened down due to the tough action against crime by their department.

Victorian Police Commander Trevor Carter said, “We’re not seeing the sorts of violent crimes that we did previously, and that’s right across the metropolitan area. We’re concentrating very much on those transport hubs. In those areas we’re putting up to 100 police per night on top of what’s normally there,” he said .

Carter further informed,”We’re also doing some work in those areas where we know the students go to work. So for instance if it’s a service station or 7/11 store or they’re driving taxis, we’re actually out there giving them some advice about being safe. We’ve visited over 430-odd premises.”

Reports of more than 100 attacks on Indian students have been observed since June last year in Australia.

Police have increased their presence at trouble places in a bid to deter attackers, since February this year.

These Indian students coming here to study in Australia will never learn. First, they can’t speak good English, and secondly, they’ll misbehave wherever possible. What makes this idiot think he can walk home late nights without being attacked or robbed in a foreign country? I mean it happens everywhere. I think the Indian media should ask this student if he would be willing to work for less at convenience store back in India and walk back home late nights. There are still thousands of Indians migrating to this country and most of them don’t seem to face a major problem. But, there are certain elements, for example, teenage boys who’re just going after anyone they can catch and rob. There’s nothing racist in these incidents. Its all street crime and violence and there’s no anti-India feeling here in Australia. My God, the Indian media is ruining Indian students’ prospects of studying in Australia. All my Indian friends, Australia is very safe and 100 times safer than the subcontinent.
