Dancing with the Stars - Season 4

“Dancing with the Stars” launched its 4th season last night with a 2 hour show. Up first was Ian Zeiring, of 90210 fame, with his professional partner Cheryl. They performed a cha cha cha and garnered praise with moderate criticism from the judges. They scored a total of 21/30 points.Next up was Paulina Porizkova, former supermodel and her partner Alec. Judges gave them 19/30 for their performance of a foxtrot. Judges critiqued Paulina’s posture but said she’s got great potential.
Billy Ray Cyrus, Country music star and his partner Karina performed a cha cha cha complete with Karina wearing a mullet wig reminiscent of Billy Ray’s heyday do. Judges were under whelmed with their performance commenting that it wasn’t a cha cha cha; it was a “hoedown.” 13/30 score.
Leeza Gibbons, talk show host and oldest woman on the show this year, performed a foxtrot with her partner, Tony. Leeza is told her technicals were good but that she needs to relax. 15/30
Next up was Joey Fatone, of boy band ‘N Synch fame, and Kym who did a cha cha cha. Judges were enthused by the performance and it reflected in their scores. 24/30 for a first place finish.
Laila Ali, boxer and daughter of Muhammad Ali, was partnered with Maskim. Again judges were impressed by the performance and gave the couple 23/30.
John Ratzenberger and Edyta performed a cha cha cha and judges were complimentary considering the couple only had 2 weeks to rehearse as John replaced drop out, Vincent Pastore. Ratzenberger is the oldest male competitor this year and the couple scored 17/30.
Former Miss USA 2004, Sandi Finnessey and Brian garnered a 19/30 for their performance of the foxtrot.
Clyde Drexler, NBA Hall of Famer, and Elena performed a cha cha cha together and received lukewarm reviews from the judges. At 6′7″ he tops his partner by close to a full foot, at least. Score 17/30.
The dancer everyone was waiting for Heather Mills, former wife of Paul McCartney, was up next. With her partner Jonathan, she pulled off an impressive foxtrot. Judges suggested that she worry less about the lower half of her body, including prosthetic leg, and focus more on losing the tension in her shoulders and her frame. They scored 18/30.
Last up were Apolo Ohno, Olympic speed skating Gold Medalist, and his partner Julianne. Their rendition of a cha cha cha got the judges’ attention with Bruno saying that Apolo has the “highest potential, despite some technical mistakes.” Score of 21/30 which gives them a tie for 3rd place.
