Paris Hilton driving without license

Paris Hilton could be heading to jail and it’s unlikely she’d find that “hot”. Hilton pleaded no contest to reckless driving while intoxicated in January for an incident that occurred in September and was sentence to $1,500 in fines, alcohol education and 36 months probation. In February she was pulled over for speeding and was ticketed for misdemeanor driving with a suspended license. Hilton claimed, through her spokesman, that she was unaware her license was suspended.

Los Angeles prosecutors said that they will be asking a judge to revoke her probation which could result in a jail term for Paris. If the judge agrees to the revocation, Hilton could spend up to 90 days in jail. The hearing is set for April 17, 2007.

Junk Food Ads Aimed at Kids

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Fast food snackIn the largest, most comprehensive study of its kind, The Kaiser Foundation released a report on the conclusions of their research into 1,638 hours of children’s programming. The study reports that in those hours they found nearly 9,000 food and beverage advertisements. The breakdown of those ads are 34% for candy and snack, 28% for cereal, 4% of the ads were for dairy products and 1% for fruit juice. Not one of the 8,854 advertisements in the Kaiser study included fruits or vegetables.

In 2006 the American Academy of Pediatrics asked Congress to implement a ban on junk food commercials and the Kaiser study seems to back them up with a link between childhood obesity and junk food advertising. Childhood obesity has become a serious problem in the U.S. with an estimated 31% of children between the ages of 3 and 19 qualifying as overweight or obese.

After a steady decline in his performances, Sligh’s tempo-challenged version of “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” by The Police earned him the honor for going home.

While people strongly feel that Sanjaya has no musical talent, his ever changing hair-dos are getting folks talking. This week’s style statement was a “ponyhawk” do. The hairstyle was even copied by Ryan Seacrest at the opening of the show.

Simon Cowell has stated that should Sanjaya win “American Idol” he will quit. Simon warned, “He’s not going to win. I won’t be back if he does!”

Heather Mills Head Over Heels for Judges

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Heather Mills awed judges on “Dancing with the Stars” by performing a back walk-over. Judges were impressed with the level of difficulty in her performance and didn’t hesitate to comment. “What in the world? That was a back walk-over — I’m just so blown away by you. The level of difficulty in that routine was far higher than anyone else’s tonight and I wouldn’t think you would have thrown that in but you did and you nailed it. That was great.” stated Carrie Ann Inaba, choreographer to Madonna.

Judges and audience alike were stunned not simply because of the difficulty of the move but because Mills has a prosthetic leg. Mills was crossing a road in
London when she was hit by a police motorcycle. The accident caused crushed ribs, a punctured lung, required a metal plate in her pelvis and the amputation of her left leg below the knee.

Mills also took the opportunity to dispel rumors that she’s attracted to her partner, Jonathan Roberts. She resolutely stated, “I asked for a gay guy. I said, “Whatever you do, send me a gay guy.” So Jonathan turned up, and I thought, “Well, he doesn’t really look gay.” And I said, “Are you gay?” And he said, “No, I’m not. I’m married”. Heather Mills is the estranged wife of Beatles legend, Paul McCartney.
