HTC EVO Review: The HTC EVO just launched today and it seems like it has a few negative reasons on its side. Many reviews have been excellent for the EVO 4G technology smartphones, but the launch faces a few bugs.
Reports like the HTC EVO had issues while fetching data from the SD memory card, in terms of reading and writing. There are problems and errors messeges like for example “insufficient file permissions” while writing to the memory card.
Sprint realized the problem and said,
“We have identified the cause of the memory card issue and are testing a solution. We expect to have a software solution available very shortly that will be automatically pushed to phones over the air.”
But these problems may not be a deal-breaker for many who are waiting to buy the phone, but for many it could be a big issue. All of these things depend on the consumer intersted to buy a HTC EVO.
The launch may have been a little disappointing for the HTC EVO, but HTC should resolve the issue soon.

There was already a ota firmware update to fix this issue as of 6:15 this morning when i activated the first one at my store
I bought the phone as soon as the stores opened, So far I love it, best phone ever!
My wife’s Evo displayed the “permissions” error when she opened the camera app. However, there was a firmware update she had not applied yet. Once she applied the update the issue went away.
EVO is definitely worth it!!! I pre-ordered it from Radio Shack, was there an hour after opening, took a little over 2 hours to get it activated, but, well worth the wait. The phone is amazing, my 2 year old pc cannot pull up pages as fast as my Evo did (i am in a 4G area) and i am suppose to have an 8Mbps cable connection (but we all know that said connections whether cable, dsl or sprint are measured at optimal conditions). But the wait was worth it, and to have something in my hand that boots up, runs apps, emails, and more faster than a pc that is only 2 yrs old on a dedicated Ethernet cable, is amazing, granted i think my pc has slightly less than a 1 gz processor. but still… Sprint TV, amazing, Camera, amazing, video, amazing, email with non google great, i do not have a complaint about this phone at all….
my first day after a full charge, i went 6.5 hours with heavy text, moderate data, a couple phone calls and kept the 4g on, plus had my email and friend steam going in real time…. i cannot complain, HTC and Sprint did it (and Android too….)
Wow! This article was obviously authored on an iPhone. HTC had a software patch for this at launch. The EVO is simply the best phone on the planet bar none.
No issues so far – I migrated from a Pre to my EVO. So far, the only thing I think was better on my Pre is notifications. The multi-tasking also ‘felt’ better as far as how you swap between apps – I keep trying to gesture move between running apps and of course that doesn’t work.
All in all, the EVO rocks the house.
OMG best phone ever
i cant believe all those apple heads got it free and tried 2 scare us from buying it..
not 1 problem out of this phone..
Is it worth it??? Hell yeah!!!SD card issue fixed within in the hours I had my EVO in my hands!!
We bought 2 of these phones and absolutely love them! The camera takes amazing pictures and the LED flash is perfect. The videos look sharp and with the 4G connection available in our area, its phenomenal!
Day two!! I have been a I-phone owner for years, Day Two with my EVO and wooow!! this thing blows I-phone away! I never thought I would say that because I love(d) my I-phone. Really thought the phone was alittle big when I got it out of the box, but in about 30 mins of setup it perfect!!! If you own a I-phone and were awaiting the new I-phone “Don’t” wast your time. And besides the phone, Sprint folks are so frendly.. Bye Bye At&t. theirs a new kid on the block.
I love this phone. In my opinion this phone is what the Palm Pre should have been. Now I can certainly say that I would hold on to my phone for about 2yrs before buying another.
well I picked my evo up yesterday, sprint was fantastic, got the phone upgraded to my existing account with the rebate already included, there was a lag in provisioning the phone for data services but sprint customer service fixed it with one call later in the afternoon around 6pm
the bottom line I think the best hardware feature is the 8mp camera,it comes with multiple filters and is smart enough to adjust quickly
SICK AS HELL!!! BEST PHONE!
I went to buy the phone yesterday.
I am in Los Angeles.
The phone is fast and beautiful.
The first thing that bothered me is the percieved difficulty in getting to a contact. You have to open the phone book and then search.
I am currently using a pre. All I have to do is start typing on the querty and the contact comes up right away.
I think that there might be an app or a work around, or I might just get used to it.
The deal breaker was when I noticed that the phone was using 3g. I asked why it wasn’t using 4g. The rep said that it wasn’t rolling out for another 8 months.
So now we have a 4g phone, without a 4g network.
I am probably not being fair. I do live in this little back water town….. Los Angeles. Hardly anyone here uses a cell phone.
Oh well, I guess it’s the Verizon 4g IPhone. Apple would never release a 4g phone without a network to drive it.
just an update. To be fair, I guess the EVO has a global search, which would probably address my concern about finding contacts easily.
when i went into sprint, i asked about how to find a contact and the clerk didn’t know, so i assumed it was hard. i should have checked online first
Paul,
just go into the app drawer slide down to people hold the icon and land it on the home screen or press phone and start spelling their name and when you see them either press their number to call or their face to edit contact …..voila !!!
