The explosion occurred on Tuesday night. The oil rig, which is built 84 kilometers southeast of the city of Venice, Louisiana, had 126 workers on it at the time of the incident, as stated in a report by Coast Guard Petty Officer Mike O’Berry.

Almost all of the workers managed to make it off the oil rig safely, however seven of them suffered extensive injuries and were admitted in hospital in a critical condition.

The Coast Guard are already preparing to assess the damage to the environment caused by the accident, but for now efforts are being concentrated on rescuing everyone safely and finding the missing workers.
