US Treasury Unveils New 100 Dollar Bill Design

The United States Treasury has jas officialy released a brand new design for the 100 dollar bill. According to the press release, it will begin circulating in February 2011. The new design is strongly improved in terms of security, featuring the latest advancements in security technology that should make it pretty much impossible to counterfeit.

There’s a new, 3D security ribbon which holds pictures of bells and 100s, which shift their position as you tilt and rotate the bill. The bell in the inkwell on the front face of the new bill will also change its color, going from bronze to green, as the bill moves. Various other features will prevent falsification of the bill as well.

On the back, you can find a vignette of Independence Hall, seen from the rear of the building. The current $100 bills will remain in circulation even after the release of the new ones, and probably won’t be pulled out for a good while.
