Marking the beginning of a new Hindu lunar calendar, the Ugadi festival is usually celebrated by Indians from the Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka regions. And speaking of celebrations, during Ugadi, mantras are chanted and predictions are made for the new year, with the most important part being Panchanga Shravanam — which you can usually hear in the temples.

Celebrating Ugadi involves waking up at dawn and taking the traditional oil head bath. It follows with traditional prayers to the Sun god, before accepting Vepapoota Pachadi (Neem Flower Pickle) on an empty stomach. Scrubbing the house clean is also a must. Then maybe some cooking — Ugadipachadi, Puran Poli, Pulihore or Mango Rice?
Today you should consider giving your loved ones some Ugadi pictures, greetings or SMS messages. They’ll sure appreciate it and you will have a better day.
Happy Ugadi!
