Stephen Howard Schafer is the latest victim of a shark attack that took place while he was kiteboarding off South Florida’s Stuart Beach on Thursday.
The 38 year old man is the first person to die in a shark attack in Florida in five years.
Sources say that a lifeguard saw Schafer in distress in the water and went on a large surfboard to save Stephen. He brought him back to shore and rushed him to hospital but Stephen died soon after.
The authorities are investigating what types of sharks killed Stephen.
Experts say that shark attacks in Florida have been rare and it is surprising how Stephen was attacked on a Florida beach. There have been reports however that some beaches have closed because of shark sighting.
