India’s biggest tennis star Sania Mirza has reportedly called off her engagement to Sohrab Mirza.
The reason for this is allegedly because her prospective in-laws wanted her to quit tennis after marriage and focus on her family.
One of Sania’s family friend told reporters: “Sohrab’s father wanted a normal marriage for his son where the bride would spend a lot of time with her husband. But Sania’s tennis tournaments keep her away from India for 8-9 months on an average every year. So when she heard of Adil’s wish, Sania agreed to give up tennis. This was not acceptable to Sania’s father, however, and the engagement was called off.”
Sania Mirza’s dad however said: “She will continue playing. It has nothing to do with her career. She had been playing before, played through the engagement and will continue to play,” he said.
